Love in the Time of Cholera

Very mixed feelings here. This is a great novel and the film should have been equally great. The two leading roles were carried off well (Kudos to Javier Bardem!) especially in old age - favorite delivery, "I remained a virgin for you." "Liar!" Very dry and perfect.

My biggest problem with the film was the d00d that played Fermina's father (forget his name - that's how much he sucked)! Damn! I have rarely seen such poor execution! Terrible accent, ridiculous acting. I had always envisioned him as being a little silly (in an ignorant man trying to do the best he can for his daughter kind of way) but with a LOT more dignity. Very disappointed.

I know it's hard to live up to such a wonderful book, but a few tweaks and some casting changes could have brought this one up on the good films list by a few notches.
