Really proud. I know the future will be rough, but I willallow myself a week of pure idealism and optimism. I am truely filled with joy, and my life as a teacher and a mom will change, as well as my feelings about citizenship. Please don't be cynical. My joy is is the symbolism but also the substance, and the fact that the people of America have moved to a better place. As a teacher of fifteen years, I am so proud of the young people who got up and did what was right. It has been a very dark eight years, and America has had a very turbulent, often ugly history, But it has also been frought with brave people and thinkers and idealists. I stand with these. I think we elected one tonight, but whatever the future holds, this a night where we can be reminded that we can collectively be better, and history's injustice are never set in stone. Never. It's cliche but sincere: We can make change in our world. This is a little step. Never underestimate a step.

It's a historic moment! I think it's amazing that there are so many people that were so enthusiastic and excited about this election that had been apathetic or disenchanted in the past (like most young people). For all the elections that I've experienced in my life this is about the only one that has made me feel completely involved, or that it really mattered; or that I could relate to the candidate! It's just amazing. I think Obama speaks to so many people in a level no other politician has been able to do; and I'm glad he won. And yes! Now I can say, I'm proud to be american!! May the force be with him!

I must add how proud I am that so many people saw past the lies and slander.

You guys remind me of one of aesop's fables, The milkmaid: "A Maid was carrying her pail of milk to the farm-house, when she fell a-musing. "The money for which this milk will be sold will buy at least three hundred eggs. The eggs, allowing for all mishaps, will produce two hundred and fifty chickens. The chickens will become ready for market when poultry will fetch the highest price; so that by the end of the year I shall have money enough to buy a new gown. In this dress I will go to the Christmas junketings, when all the young fellows will propose to me, but I will toss my head, and refuse them every one." At this moment she tossed her head in unison with her thoughts, when down fell the Milk-pot to the ground, and broke into a hundred pieces, and all her fine schemes perished in a moment." All fundamentalist white america has to do is break your "milkpot" and you shan't be going to the ball after all. I'm glad you feel better though!

The idea that there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats has it's limitations. They're not extreme as some of us would like to make them out to be, but they are worth taking sides over. Here is a pretty good (but long) article that goes into detail the ramifications of Nader in 2000. It comes from the left,(a CUNY prof). It is espescially worth noticing Michael Moore's role in the process. http://dragon.soc.qc.cuny.edu/Staff/levine/Ralph-Nader-As-Suicide-Bomber.html

That's a fable worth heeding. But jasnagóra, don't be smug and assume that allowing a bit of hope and relative optimism for a couple of days is the same is as the frivolous milkmaid of your fable. But thanks for the warning.
