Obama won't be able to make a dent in the current smash-and-grab thieving rip off that is our economy, and our electoral systems. Spartacus was not one man alone, he had hundreds of thousands behind him, but even he could not change Rome (at least he tried though, eh, democrats? How about it).Obama is one smart man, with a dozen bewildered has-beens and never-wases tugging on his apron strings. Obama versus the long established KKK america, is like sarah connor unconscious, in a wheelchair, versus the Terminator on methamphetamine. But what he could do, and this is what keeps the poor under the spell (note well julie!), is undo the hypnosis of the religious fundamentalists; all other pillars will fall when this one does, believe me. Religious brainwashing may seem irrelevant, but hear me on this, I have examples: If Jopaku were not hooked on catechism, would he Seriously be defending pedophilia, would he be always going on about communism? No, he'd be normal and rational, right? You can't reason with them, thats why y'all are failing to make an impact on that 48% who will ALWAYS vote in favour of worldwar3. Free their minds first

Hi, I have no illusions. I realize that while Obama is a smart man we are dealing with massive system of oppressison and corruption.

I don't if jasnagóra is our old friend "ME." I can see in these posts a similarity in perspective. But whomever jasnagóra is, I want to ask: what you propose beyond reason...? I used to debate with "ME" the issue civil disobedience, which he largely saw as a waste of time. So what are you getting at exactly here?

Unless Me has had a Damascus experience and now worships the Black Madonna (not very probable), I´d say our comrade from the Bright Mount is someone else :). Besides, the style differs a little. -Yes, I miss Me also...particularly for my bile flow (g).Jasnagòra...Spartacus is a bad example. He only wanted to get out of the system (after sacking Southern Italy, but we can book that as collateral damage) but was forced to take a stand because of Roman interior politics. They quite simply needed an enemy. Sound familiar?

"Obama is one smart man, with a dozen bewildered has-beens and never-wases tugging on his apron strings. I really wonder what kind of conversations go on at the dinner table on those households where the idea was that Obama was a TERRORIST MUSLIM ARAB AMERICA HATER! That palled with terrorists!!! Maybe now.. they will look at that American flag, with a different , cautious.. suspicious air..?

Miguel ... they call him a terrorist muslim arab america hater only because they are not allowed to say what they want. His constituency is under no such restrictions. Seen that woman on YouTube stating Obama in the WH means she´ll never "have to pay foh gas no more"? That´s actually the way they view their Messiah: He give us moolah and cahs and blonde hos and bling bling and he´ll sock it to´em blue-eyed debbils. Their infantilism is sickening.Anyways - if Hussein does not deliver (and he cannot possibly) the results will be amusing to watch. The White libruls he has already flunked on two central points - the war (Rahm Emanuel) and health care (Robert Rubin). The economy is sure to go a lot further south (if even the UAW notices that, it takes no crystal ball). And after eight years of Dubya, an unelectable buffoon with serious neurological problems managed to garner 48% of the vote. Triumph, I´d say, is hardly warranted :)

I keep thinking of the line from The Candidate, "What do we do now?" Substitute Barack Obama for Robert Redford and all the rest applies. Picking Hillary for the State Department, and then allowing her to set the terms of her employment is absolutely mind boggling. Does he have any idea of what he is doing? I am actually embarrassed for him.He has stopped talking about "hope and change" and has begun emphasizing how bad things are going to get. He is already making excuses for his impending failure. He is destined to be a one term President. The people will not re-elect someone that comes across as weak. I would have more respect for him if he were his own man, and wasn't desperately attaching himself to the Clintons.

I agree on the one term and maybe no Dem prez in the next 25 years. However, the GOP is beyond redemption also, and the prospects of presenting a serious conservative candidate in two years are dim. The electoral system (winner takes all) conserves the duopoly. Then, what did you think a "community organizer" is? An agitator and race hustler. For that, you need no political philosophy beyond "Black good, White baaad". As a result, more Americans are killed in Chicago than in Iraq. And (from his time as state senator) as a White Illinoian you go to the slammer for minor traffic violations when there are too many black rapists and murderers. Diversity is hard work (g). So much for "legacy". (though I have to give it to him - he tries hard to sound reasonable. Maybe when he quits eating chalk and they remove the duct tape from Michelle´s mouth...;b) That he sold out to the Israel Lobby has been clear since long before the election (whoever voted for him on the war issue should seriously reconsider their medication). It will be business as usual in the Mideast, plus maybe a few elective interventions in the Congo, Darfur or some other shithole (McCain would at least have spared you those). Other than that, I´d rate his choices so far as cautious, a bit conservative, some sensible, some not so ... but not expressly "weak". Jas - the resident Catholic is yours truly. Stop picking on Jo. Otherwise...Zoltar says - your wish is granted. I´d say the religious right is done for as a voting block that has to be pandered to. Hell, they couldn´t even rally behind Huckabee; they shunned McCain, and I doubt many of them voted for Baldwin. Rather, they stayed at home. Next time, it will be next to impossible to bring out the pro-lifers without losing the center. Though I´m not sure what to think of that development :)

The days of the Bob Dole republican are over. Future politicians will need to have the ability to draw a crowd. They will have to show well on Youtube, and cultivate an army of guerilla bloggers to spread the word. Robocalls at dinnertime or mass mailings just won't work. Sarah Palin is the prototype of the new conservative. She drew the crowds, no one else on the republican side did. Young, energetic, and reactive. Bobby Jindal is another rising star in the party. I doubt you will see anymore seventy year old candidates who run because they "put their time in" and feel that they are owed something. Aiming for the center only helps democrats get elected. Conservatives need to stay on course, without apology or equivocation.

Oh hi! You guys got busy here. I've worked for and with several community organizations. Nokangs, you hold on to a stereoype that is very misleading. Why would say "race hustlers?" In the cases where people fight for their rights and improvement of their quality of life, are they "race hustling?" "Agitators," well its an an complete picture. However, protest and drawing attention to a cause is necessary, otherwise how would people become aware of it? However, many community organizers work completely within the system. The many that I have known are some of the most moral and hardworking decent people around. That said, community organizers also come from the far right and come from all stripes and creeds. Also, grassroots community organizers are hugely effective in moving legislation. And, the kind Barack Obama was part of are similar to those I worked with LA -- organzing people to take responsibility within their own communities and to try to change unjust laws. How could you have a problem with that or diminish it?
Anyway, community organization is how Obama won the election. I'm one of the many many thousands who helped. Will Obama succeed? Right now I am disapointed in his appointees since I would like more grassroots people from the best NGOs and public service jobs, and yes more liberal people. However, Obama is a strong and smart man, so he may know what he is doing. It will be interesting to see for sure.

I never bothered to mention the subject of his citizenship because I didn't think anyone here would care. What would happen if it were proven that he isn't a citizen? Even the republicans wouldn't have the nerve to try and remove him from office. There would be riots in every single city. It does seem like there is a cover-up, but Clinton made it through two terms with countless stories that weren't fully pursued because of fear and adulation.
