Julie, Nice lil' site you have going here... I have only yet to begin sorting through it, but thus far have come to see a great deal I respect. You have a truly unique character, and bring a lot of good qualities to AIC-LA, hence why I keep showing up in your classes. Thanks for all the new ideas, opinions and wisdom you have shared with me thus far. -B

Mighty impressive! The Bolt is definitely up and running with the information highway. Lots more fotos, please. Mr. Long was very impressed that you remember his quote (the butoh thang.) You forgot "The Butcher Boy" on your movie list. Well, got to go. Have not read the short stories and poems yet.

A Wonderful place to explore. The Poems and stories are great. How can one not like anything written by the Bolt? The Discussion and Debate section is a great idea. My favorite section is the Travel Album. The pics are beautiful and inspiring. They make me want to dream about and draw other worlds. Also, I am honored to be included in your photo album. Julie, you did a great job. Bravo! I will be adding this site to my favorite places.

Hi Julie Sorry we didn't get to talk more at the OOA anniversary- can you believe it's been 2 years now since you, Dave and I were posted at the same reception table at the 17th anniversary? and for two years now, we have been fruitlessly talking about lunch plans ! Ridiculous, abosolutly. Anyway, I like your site- it's interesting to learn a little bit about a person I like, yet really don't know, in this curious way. I too am a great admirer of Sherman Alexie and Nabokov. Well, this is a little long for a message board (I think). I like your stories (haven't gotten to the poems yet). Until next time, Michelle

...She was one of those languid women made of dark honey, smooth and sweet and terribly sticky, who take control of a room with a syrupy gesture, a toss of the hair--hey, what the? How did I--? Uh, sorry, Julie, I thought I was posting to my slightly more risque--uh, to a different site. Well, (clears throat; assumed casualness), hey Jules! Bravo! I do expect your site to walk with me and talk with me and tell me of many things. Now, I must resume my life's work... It was intresting to read "Beatniks" and what they are all about. I dont get cable but reading this essay transended me to a "The Learing Channel" mode. I particularly liked how the beatnik name came to be and also now their art (i.e. literature and music) flowed with their lifestyle politically. Beatniks are also fun to draw.

The "Wunchy" is in the hizzay, and JTB's hizzay is pretty dang cool! Thank you Julie for the great site. Keep up the good work. You set the standard for what a college teacher should be. You are always open to new ideas and even when you don't necessarily agree with a particular opinion, you patiently listen to it in it's entirety before you respond. That is a virtue Julie, it is difficult to do and I hope one day to be as exceptional of a critical thinker as you are! You rock our world "playa" thank you.

After attending at least three of your classes, I have learned how use my voice and not be afraid to use it. Your website helps alot with information. My parents came from a country where women fought for freedom as much as the next man. Equality! Freedom! Fight for which is right is what I learned. Hopefully the rumors of another civil war in my parents country stays a rumor, if not i must go back with them and fight. The knowledge I have gained from your classes will help win many battles in my future, Thank you Mumbles.

The Armenian ceramics page is very nice, but there are some important corrections that need to be made in case a reader wants to do some more research on his or her own. First, the correct spelling is Ohannessian. It is possible to find more information on this artist through the major Internet search engines. Second, it is the Via Dolorosa, the infinitely famous road where Christ carried the cross on the way to his crucifixion, where Ohannessian's pottery shop was established. Then, the colors of the ceramics are not produced through the use of blue clay, but blue and other hues of glazes which realize their colors through the process of firing. Tavit (the transliteration of the Armenian name David) went back to Kutahya to collect patterns and raw materials for the mixing of the glazes. He had learned the tradition of pottery making in Kutahya, which was a secondary center for ceramics in Turkey after Iznik. And he was influenced in the revival of interest in Islamic-style pottery by the designer C. R. Ashbee, who was involved in the Arts and Crafts movement in England, which had explored and popularized an Islamic-style decor in European ceramics through the work of a number of artists, including, notably, William de Morgan in England and Theodore Deck in France, as well as a number of commercial firms in England and Italy. Isnik and other Islamic pottery gained vogue in Europe in the 19th century. There is an immense collection of Islamic (and Armenian) pottery on display in the Vicoria and Albert Museum in London, acquisitions made over the course of the second half of the 19th century for those who wish to take a good look in person. Ohannessian's work melded with the early 20th century interpretations of the old Damascus and Iznik ceramics while remaining within the tradition of the many Armenian potters that had preceded him through the centuries in Turkey. In fact, the distinctive reddish color often seen in Iznik pottery of the 16th and 17th centuries is called Armenian bole. So it is good to be able to see these examples of Ohannessian's work, but it is also good to get some more facts straight! Thanks for your efforts!

President George Bush it my cousin. He and i are decendants to the Wampanoag Royal line.He and his family seem to have lost the meaning of the morals we have. They know that the jig is up and we know that they are wicked. Now they are taking the realivance of God out of our forever changing the image of the american peoples forever.Thats why we seem to be coming off to other peoples as hippocratical nation. Now they build along the lines of communism one of the things that we hate!!!!Using the law and thier resources for malicious purposes. It disgusting how the so freely abuse the system for their own means. No country can endure the seperation of it's peoples it will not stand.People have the right to be good as God. Now they want us to follow the law whether god or bad reguardless to the consquences. This breach of trust will be the end of america.I am the Sachem for my family of the royal bloodlines of the Narragansett and Wampanoag Peoples and We if necessary saperate from this wicked union.Good luck in your undertakings.

You're a bit wrong about Kerry's vote on the war. I was disappointed that he voted yes - but as he said then - it was reluctantly - I watched his speech. He voted to go to the UN beforee any action and said he would hold Bush accountable if he did not do what he was saying he would do-- re the UN , allies etc. Of course, W was lying through his teeth and a lot of us felt it. I'm sorry Kerry didn't. Also -- Sharpton??!! Also Kucinich -- I like what he says but he has loser written all over him. What's the point?

I send you love and underscore the necessity for all of us to get in involved right now in the national debate during this crucial time. (Please vote, everyone!) Lauri

Hi, Julie-- I doubt you remember me! I was in your class probably two or three years ago, and didn't say much or do much. I did write, though. I was at the Portfolio Show yesterday and heard about your site, so I checked it out! It's great, and Theo is ADORABLE! Hope all is well. :)

Hi Julie, I love the way you are using my Dad's Americans Who Tell The Truth portraits on your site. (Yours is a great, fun, informative, alive site.) I will send my Dad the link now so that he can see as well. We are working with the Cesar Chavez Foundation to bring the portraits to Southern California. My e-mail is aran@americanswhotellthetruth.org. If you send me a message I will keep you posted on the exhibition's itinerary. All the best, Aran

Is Lawrence really your favorite alltime film? Mine too. I am so impressed by your website and, moreover, the life you are living. I agree with your politics, and were I younger, well, who knows? Alas, when I was younger, I didn't have the insight that you have now. Actors spend too much time having to be whores to the profession. I am very happy to be an English prof instead. I love you, your family and of course, your mom ...and dad, who I haven't seen in years except for the wonderful pictures up on this site. Go, Julie!

I've been looking around some more; specifically, I was interested in your syllabus. Are you sure you're Gigi and Johnny's daughter? I know I'm not as pretty as either of them, but you think the way I do and you teach the way I do. Could I have had you in some alky blackout way back when and then they slipped you to that lovely couple to raise? Hmmm. I like the way you talk to your students.

I just wanted to say I like your site. I am 22 and trying to comprehend what the hell is going on with the world today. I have to problem protesting the war and don't care what people say. I have friends in Iraq and they know I support them but I do not support BUSH and this war. I would like any info you have on any protests going on. Hey there Julie! =P I just wanted to let you know about a new website that I've developed, for homosexuals and the individuals who support them. It's called, GoingDowne.com, and it's address pretty much speaks for itself. We provide useful information to the gay community, informing them about what's going on at the other side of society with gay news, and supporting forums. Check it out, and maybe if it's possible, or if a gay subject comes in mind in your class, let's discuss it at goingdowne.com =). Take cares and see you later.

AHHH Julie, I couldn't agree more on the walls of Venice and SM. I fell in love with the pier when Samuel was young and we still enjoy it to this day. Afterwards (or before) we take a dive and then the pier, and then the Lobster for seafood apps on the patio while scratching the salt from our shoulders. Those ARE the moments that involuntarily define home for me. I can't imagine your (is turmoil too strong?)about leaving, but as you know you are loved by so many and Venice is staying right where it is waiting for frequent visits from you all. What a grand opportunity for Mom and Dad, but a real gift for Theo to know two diverse and equally inspireing places to call home!!! Be well, SR

"AS if a phantom caress’d me, I thought I was not alone, walking here by the shore; But the one I thought was with me so long ago, as now I walk by the shore—the one I once loved ..., As I lean and look through the glimmering light—that one has not disappeared!" Wow! Read your resume and you are ...! Must absorb your material. Still do not understand how I found you. Bright, imaginative, sensitive, and still surrounded by kids. So many questions... thoughts impalpable, to breathe, as air. "WHO is now reading this? May-be one is now reading this who knows some wrong-doing of my past life, Or may-be a stranger is reading this who has secretly loved me, Or may-be one who meets all my grand assumptions and egotisms with derision, Or may-be one who is puzzled at me. As if I were not puzzled at myself! Or as if I never deride myself! (O conscience-struck! O self-convicted!) Or as if I do not secretly love strangers! (O tenderly, a long time, and never avow it;) Or as if I did not see, perfectly well, interior in myself, the stuff of wrong-doing, Or as if it could cease transpiring from me until it must cease." Looks like a good site. I support the idea that "9-11" was not done by a handful of loony Arabs with plastic box-cutters, but was--rather--orchestrated by people in the intelligence community..as directed by people like Cheney and Rumsfeld. There is plenty of evidence of this, for anyone with an open mind and with more intelligence than a head of cabbage.

| i know you like indians. here is a story, not contrived, this actually did happen. this is about leroy cleveland, an american indian, a sioux. he was killed on june 22, 2002 at dallas, texas. he was drinking that afternoon, he had just engaged in an arm wrestling match with chico and he then, the way they tell it, he dissappeared under the bridge. they later found his body tangled in some debris under bachman lake. i dont know whaT HAPPENED MYSELF AS I WAS NOT THERE. I WAS VERY UPSET AS HE WAS MY FRIEND, WENT DOWN THERE AND ENDEAVORED TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED. THERE WERE ABOUT 3-4 PEOPLE I TALKED TO WHO WERE HANGING OUT THERE. THEY ALL GAVE DIFFERENT STORIES. THIS IS A SAD TRAGEDY FOR HIM, AND ME ,..AS I STILL GRIEVE FOR HIM. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD CONTACT HIS GRANDMOTHER, MARIA WHITEWATER IN OMAHA NEBRASKA. | ...there's so much to a story that can never be summed up in simplicity without having embraced the essence and vitality of the content; that which dangles in the paradox of conceptual existence. If the experience and the process of sensory cognative analysis of these fleeting moments are slept away; they are cast into the big empty. Possibilities and enigmatic anomolies fed to the vacuum of life unwritten. The absence of any relativity incubates the manifestation of illusion... an empty shell of a hollowed conclusion... in hypothosis, the very understanding of life then hangs in the gallows by a futile noose; a shallow compensation for idle contentment. A mosolium of consciousness; abstractions of paper mache memories... :::awake:::
